The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory

Research reveals that the mind forgets everything it hears except 2% after 16 days.

There is an enormous difference between knowing something and having heard something before. The most accelerated period of learning in the life of any person is the first five years of childhood. Part of the reason is that the mind is uncluttered by preconceived notions and the child is anxious to explore the “new world.” If you observe a child closely, you will find that the learning process is based on the principle of spaced repetition. A child learns a new word and begins to grasp its meaning. Invariably, he uses that word at every opportunity until it is firmly entrenched in his learning process. Educators have recognized for generations that spaced repetition, properly applied, is the most effective form of teaching.
