Duties of a GM

The General Manager will be completely responsible and held accountable for the successful operation of the entire dealership. He will plan and execute his plans to insure the dealership of a reasonable profit and the stockholders of a fair return on their investments. He will accomplish his objectives and carry out his responsibilities through planning, motivating, controlling and coordinating the activities of each department in the dealership.

DUTIES

A. PLANNING
1. Each year in December he will plan the dealership’s operation for the coming year.
2. He will report this plan to the stockholders or his superiors for approval.
3. Prior to the ensuing month, he will plan the dealership’s operation for the coming month.
4. He will request that each Department Manager make a plan in advance of the ensuing month for the department.
5. He will review, recommend improvement on. and approve the monthly forecast of each Department Manager.
6. He will plan his daily activities so as to provide sufficient time for giving leadership in each department of the dealership.
7. He will make long and short-range plans for the development of management employees.
8. He will formulate policies and establish procedures for training programs in all departments of the dealership.
9. He will formulate plans that will result in a good working relationship with factory personnel.
